Season 15
Episode 11
Published 2 days, 12 hours ago
Description
A fowler catches a beautiful hiraman parrot — who speaks, and sets his own price: ten thousand rupees. In the palace the bird recites the names of all the gods, outwits six jealous queens, and sends his king across the seven oceans and thirteen rivers after a lady of peerless beauty. When the king falls into the hands of an enemy and loses his sight, it is the little parrot who flies back across the world to cure him.
From Folk-Tales of Bengal by Lal Behari Day (1883), public domain; told in a modern in-house rendering.
KacheliTV — world classics, read aloud.
