One breathtaking view of the Jerusalem temple turns into a jaw-dropping prophecy: Jesus says the entire complex will be dismantled, stone by stone. From there, we follow the disciples’ urgent question about timing, signs, and “the end of the age,” and we slow down long enough to notice what they do not yet understand. They are looking for the immediate arrival of the kingdom, while God’s plan will soon unfold through the church age, the rapture, and a final stretch of world history the Bible calls the tribulation.

We use Matthew 24, the Olivet Discourse, as our guide and connect it to key end times passages across Scripture. Jesus describes the early signals He calls “birth pains” false messiahs, wars and rumors of wars, famines, and earthquakes and He insists these are not the finish line. Then the warnings sharpen: betrayal, persecution, false prophets, and a surge of lawlessness that sweeps the world once the restraining influence of the church is gone. Even there, we underline the hope Jesus builds into the passage: endurance that proves real faith, and the promise that the gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed worldwide, bringing millions to Christ.

We also unpack one of the most talked-about phrases in Bible prophecy: the “abomination of desolation.” By tying Jesus’ words to Daniel and 2 Thessalonians, we explain why this midpoint tribulation event points to the Antichrist, a broken covenant with Israel, a desecrated temple, and an urgent warning for believers near Jerusalem to flee. We close with the bigger takeaway: the tribulation is not chaos without purpose, but a time of testing that prepares Israel for repentance and sets the stage for the return and coronation of King Jesus and His coming kingdom. If this helped you think more clearly about Matthew 24, subscribe, share the episode, and leave a review, what question do you still have about the rapture or the tribulation?
