That “something bad is coming” feeling can hit out of nowhere and if you’re a prepper, it’s easy to treat it like a warning siren. I talk through a personal wave of dread that showed up with no trigger and why our instincts often push us into constant scanning, even when there’s nothing concrete to act on. The key idea is simple but powerful: dread is not the data point. It’s your nervous system running a background check without specifics.

We dig into why this happens, from the modern news cycle and doomscrolling to the slow grind of bills, maintenance, and sleep loss. Your brain can’t always tell the difference between a bear and a mortgage due on the first, so it keeps you on alert and burns the energy you actually need for clear thinking, practical preparedness, and good decisions. I also share how prepping itself can accidentally crank up anxiety: the more you plan, the more gaps you see; the more gaps you see, the more urgent everything feels.

Then we get practical with a signal-versus-noise test you can use anytime: can you name the threat with specifics, a timeline, and a next step? If yes, it’s a task and it goes on the list. If not, it’s noise, and you practice letting it pass. I also share two simple tools to break the loop, plus a quick note on my new site buildyourark.net and the CSPP20 code for 20% off subscriptions. If this helped, subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review.
