Nasreddin Hodja — Part 2 of 20 (Letters and the First Donkeys)
Description
Twenty more anecdotes of the Hodja. A doctor who shuts his eyes at the burial ground, vinegar that needed a year to become itself, a dreadful book of poems praised to its author's face, and a letter that turns out to be a tax bill — then the donkeys arrive and the episode is theirs: a donkey consulted about his own lending, a donkey braying indoors while his master swears he is out, eight donkeys counted as seven and then as eight, a donkey thanked for a rescue he never made, and a donkey formally asked where the cloak has gone. Also here: the tailor who dreamed of Judgment Day, the land where even pebbles fly a flag of gold, and the chicks put into mourning for their mother.
From Der Hodscha Nasreddin by Albert Wesselski (1911), public domain; told in a fresh in-house rendering.
