Popol Vuh — Part 3 of 15 (Zipacna and Cabracan — the End of the Proud Ones)

Season 13 Episode 3 Published 3 days, 14 hours ago
Description

In Zipacna, Maker of Mountains, the eldest son of Vucub-Cakix carries a great tree for the four hundred young men, survives the pit they dig for him, and overturns their hut upon them. In The Defeat of Zipacna, Hunahpu and Xbalanque avenge the young men with a false crayfish at the foot of the mountain Meavan, and Zipacna is turned to stone. In Cabracan, Destroyer of Mountains, the second son is drawn eastward, weakened by a bird rubbed with earth, bound, and buried, and the age of the proud ones ends. These are the K'iche' people's own book, written down by K'iche' authors in the 1550s and preserved in Fr. Ximénez's copy, read here with respect as the sacred and historical book it is.
