Popol Vuh — Part 2 of 15 (The Wooden Men and the Fall of Seven Macaw)
Description
The second part of the Popol Vuh opens with The Wooden Manikins, whose dry and ungrateful hearts bring the flood and the rain of resin upon them, and whose own animals and household things rise up and speak against them. It then turns to Vucub-Cakix, the Proud One, who called himself the sun and the moon before the true dawn had come. In The Blowgun Shot, the young Hunahpu and Xbalanque resolve to humble him, and in The Fall of Vucub-Cakix the two old ones draw his shining teeth and leave him grains of white maize in their place, so that his pride and his life end together. This is the K'iche' people's own book, written down by K'iche' authors in the 1550s and preserved in the copy made by Francisco Ximénez.
