Episode Details

Patrick Montgomery served as an Army Ranger. Today he owns Valor Provisions and KC Cattle Company. We covered a lot of ground in this conversation, and a good bit of it doesn’t usually come up when people talk about his business. He lost his brother-in-law, who was also his mentor, and he lost other teammates along the way. Patrick opens up about what those losses did to him, and how grief turned into a cycle of self-destructive behavior he couldn’t get out of on his own. He’s honest about how deep that hole got and what it finally took to climb out. For him, the answer was turning back to the Lord.
We also talked about what came after: building something with purpose. Patrick shares his path as an entrepreneur and why he’s committed to putting small farms back at the forefront. Corporate agriculture controls so much of what ends up on our plates, and he’s working to give independent farmers and ranchers a real place in that system again.
He hasn’t forgotten where he came from, either. Supporting veterans is built into how his companies operate, and giving back to the guys who served is part of the mission, not a marketing line. It’s about knowing where your food comes from, backing the people who raise it the right way, and taking care of your own. This is a real conversation about loss, faith, and rebuilding, from the bottom of that hole to building a business that stands for something. If you’re carrying something heavy right now, I hope you hear yourself in this and know you’re not too far gone.
If you or someone you know is struggling, the Veterans Crisis Line is available 24/7. Dial 988 and press 1, or text 838255.
