Episode Details

CBS Radio Mystery Theater presents “Markheim Man or Monster,” episode 279, originally broadcast on May 23, 1975. This CBS Radio Network suspense drama adapts Robert Louis Stevenson’s short story “Markheim,” with Kevin McCarthy starring as Karl Markheim. Written by Ian Martin and directed by Himan Brown.

Denied an inheritance by his wealthy great-uncle, the manipulative Markheim turns toward his wife and father-in-law as potential sources of money. As his plans intensify, an uncanny presence behind a mirror seems to be watching in this domestic Gothic tale of greed, conscience, and mounting dread.

CBS Radio Mystery Theater presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
