Grow to Survive and the Great Distraction!

Description

Tonight I was joined by Maleficous Scott from Cornwall and Paul for a gloriously wide-ranging conversation that began with Cornish identity, pasties, scones, seagulls and the eternal Devon-versus-Cornwall rivalry, before turning to the much bigger question of food: why it costs so much, whether shortages are real or manufactured, and how far Britain has drifted from local production. We talked about farm shops, supermarket buying power, fishing, imported produce, the pressure on farmers, and the strange logic of shipping food halfway round the world only to sell it back to us at home. I also shared my frustration at seeing good local growing land disappear under housing, solar farms and planning games, while Scott made the case for farmers selling more directly to the public.

From there, we got into practical ideas: growing what you can, learning to forage, using nettles and homemade feeds in the garden, community growing, and the realities of trying to become even partly self-sufficient. We also touched on electro-culture, natural remedies, diet, hospitals, Big Pharma, Tartaria, hidden history, energy, climate claims and even aircraft trails in the sky. In other words, this was one of those classic Fockham Hall evenings where the laughter never stopped, but neither did the questions.
