Description
The warrior Fujiwara Hidesato steps calmly over a sleeping dragon on the bridge of Seta, and finds himself led beneath the waters of Lake Biwa to the palace of the Dragon King, whose household lives in terror of the great centipede of Mount Mikami. One stormy night, one steadfast guest, and a clear dawn — and the warrior comes home as Tawara Toda, "My Lord Bag of Rice," laden with a grateful king's gifts, among them a bag of rice that no day's cooking can ever empty.
From Japanese Fairy Tales by Yei Theodora Ozaki (1908), public domain; told in a fresh in-house rendering.
