Description
Myths of the Cherokee — Part 12 of 22 (The Great Leech of Tlanusi'yi · The Nunne'hi and Other Spirit Folk · The Removed Townhouses)
The Immortals' part. First, the Giant Leech of Tlanusi'yi, whose waterspout swept the rock ledge — and the young man who sang his defiance on the way across. Then the Nunne'hi: the spirit people of the balds, invisible unless they wish to be seen, fond of music, kind to the lost — with the boy's visit across the ridge, the four women at the Nottely dance, the warm chimney on Nottely branch, and the swept townhouse depression the traders could not fill. Mooney's survey continues with the Little People of the rock caves, the Water-dwellers, Tsawa'si and Tsaga'si, De'tsata who hides the arrows, and the Fire-carrier in the night. The part closes with the towns that departed with the Immortals — and with Mooney's own words on what the Removal meant to those who left such relatives behind.
