Episode Details

During the Cold War, while the world focused on nuclear weapons, espionage, and the space race, another strange and little-known battle was unfolding behind closed doors.

A battle of the mind.

In secret research programs funded by the United States government, scientists and intelligence agencies began exploring something that sounded more like science fiction than military strategy: astral projection and remote viewing.

The idea was simple — if human consciousness could leave the body and travel across vast distances, it might be possible to spy on enemy locations, gather intelligence, and access information without ever physically being there.

This research would eventually become part of a controversial intelligence program known as Project Stargate.

Participants claimed they could describe distant locations, secret military installations, and hidden objects using only their minds. Some of the results were dismissed as coincidence or imagination, while others were strange enough to make intelligence agencies continue funding the research for years.

But the deeper question remains:

Was this merely psychological experimentation…
or did the government believe there was something real behind these abilities?

In this episode of GL Deep Dives, we explore the strange story of government experiments with consciousness, the science behind the Gateway Process, and the controversial attempts to weaponize the human mind.

How far did these programs go?

And what did they actually discover?
