Opportunity

The lady stood, arms on the balustrade, facing out to sea. Garrick couldn't believe his luck.

He strolled, elaborately nonchalant, and dipped into her bag. Quick fingers identified comb, diary, purse...

She moved like a viper, squeezing his wrist until the bones cracked.

He dragged against her grip, visions of police, courts, and gallows crowding in on him. 

Slowly, she let go. She pulled a gold coin from a hidden pocket, flashing him just a glimpse of it. 

"I need a thief. Steal that coin from me by Sunday, and you're hired. But if I catch you again, you'll hang."
