Episode Details

What does it truly mean to trust in Hashem? In this opening episode of the Shaar Habitachon Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe begins an inspiring journey through Rabbeinu Bachya Ibn Pakuda's timeless masterpiece, Chovos HaLevavos. Discover the profound difference between Emunah (faith) and Bitachon (complete reliance on Hashem). While faith means believing that Hashem controls everything, Bitachon means actually living with that conviction. Through powerful teachings and relatable examples, we discover how placing our complete reliance on Hashem can transform our lives from anxiety and uncertainty into peace, confidence, and serenity.

Can someone else really take away your livelihood? Rabbi Wolbe shares a personal conversation with his daughter about business competition, along with the remarkable story of a Jerusalem baker who willingly helped his competitor succeed. Both stories illustrate a life-changing truth: What Hashem has designated for you cannot be taken away by anyone else. When we genuinely internalize this principle, jealousy, unnecessary competition, and financial anxiety begin to disappear. We learn that our success comes not from manipulating circumstances or other people, but from the Almighty Himself.

The episode also explores the spiritual rewards of Bitachon, the dangers of placing our ultimate trust in human beings, and the delicate balance between Hishtadlus (personal effort) and divine reliance. Through the biblical example of Yosef, an extraordinary story about a donkey returning with treasure, and an inspiring account of Jewish workers protecting Shabbos observance, Rabbi Wolbe demonstrates that Bitachon is not merely a philosophical belief but a practical approach to everyday life. The ultimate gift of Bitachon is Menuchas HaNefesh—a deep inner tranquility that comes from knowing that Hashem is always taking care of us.
