Vladimir Mayakovsky — Fifteen Poems (1916–1918)
Description
An ostrich in feathers of stanzas, metres and rhymes, trying to hide his head from snowy Russia; the Emperor Peter the Great climbing down from his granite to ask for grenadine in the Astoria; brother writers scolded over their tea in the Bristol; and then the chronicle of February 1917 itself, day by day, hour by hour, until the flag of revolution rises over the Peter and Paul Fortress. After it: poster captions for the Parus publishing house, a Cadet in a little red cap eaten by the wolves of the revolution, the war drum called to account, wheelbarrows for ministers, a cock, a dog and a thief dividing the world — and at the end a fallen horse on the icy street, comforted by the one man who did not laugh: "we are all a little bit horses." Fifteen poems of 1916–1918, the years when the futurist became the voice of a revolution.
