Your Home Is Not Neutral with Dagmar Holub
Description
Who is Dagmar Holub?
Dagmar Holub is a Philosophy Designer and founder of Interior Odyssey, bringing together her experience in high-end interior design with her background in history and philosophy.
After beginning her career with Pierre Frey and Andrew Martin, Dagmar established her own interior design practice, Designer’s Atelier. Her early work gained recognition through the One to Watch MyDeco competition, judged by Philippe Starck and Sir Terence Conran, leading to an internship with Kelly Hoppen.
Her work has since evolved beyond decoration into a deeper exploration of how our environments shape identity, behaviour, desire and who we become. Following a personal crisis, Dagmar began questioning the design industry’s focus on style, status and surface, asking instead whether our homes simply reflect us – or actively participate in creating us.
She is the creator of the Environmental Alignment Framework, exploring the home through three interconnected layers: Identity, Structure and Expression.
Dagmar talks about:
- Your Home Is Not Neutral – how our surroundings influence identity, behaviour and perception.
- When habit becomes identity – how repeated environmental cues can become patterns that eventually feel like personality.
- Is your style really yours? – how trends, advertising, algorithms, status and social approval influence what we believe we like.
- The psychological weight of possessions – how objects can hold memories, grief, scarcity, ambition, status and former versions of ourselves.
- Why changing your life isn’t always enough – how we can change careers, relationships or locations while unconsciously recreating the same patterns around us.
- Outgrowing your environment – recognising when your home continues to reinforce an identity you are ready to leave behind.
- Finding your way home – creating the conditions that allow you to become more fully yourself rather than returning to who you once were.
- Environmental Alignment – using Identity, Structure and Expression to understand what your environment is reinforcing, constraining and communicating.

I publish long-form essays through my LinkedIn newsletter, Find Your Way Home, as well as thought-provoking posts challenging conventional ideas about environment, identity, conformity, power and becoming.
I have also created the Environmental Alignment Framework and Diagnostic, which examines the home across three layers – Identity, Structure and Expression – to reveal what an environment is reinforcing, constraining and communicating.
Listeners who would like the diagnostic can connect with me on LinkedIn and message me HOME.
I’m also finishing a shorter Find Your Way Home self-assessment exploring the signs that an environment may be holding back your next identity.
My forthcoming Beyond Décor Manifesto examines how the design industry shapes what we think we love – through social conditioning, trends, algorithms, status, scarcity, celebrity culture and manufactured desire – before asking how we can reclaim perception, authentic taste and environmental authorship.
