"Do It For Yourself"
Description
The Swamp booed at homecoming. Florida lost 38-19 to South Carolina, its second straight lopsided loss, and the No. 1 team in the country is up next. Here’s what went wrong and where the Gators go from here.
🐊 THE GAME
South Carolina 38, Florida 19. It’s Florida’s first loss to the Gamecocks since 2021 and its second-most lopsided loss in the series.
LaNorris Sellers had a career kind of day: 23-of-35 for 279 yards, 4 passing TDs and a rushing TD, with zero turnovers.
Three Florida turnovers: two Aaron Philo interceptions? No. Philo threw one interception and lost a fumble, and Tramell Jones Jr. threw a late interception. South Carolina had none.
A fast start that faded: Philo hit Bailey Stockton for a 59-yard TD on the third play of the game. Stockton finished with 8 catches for 127 yards.
The end of the first half: Florida settled for a field goal from the SC 9. Then Vicari Swain’s interception set up a Gamecock TD, Florida let the clock run, and Patrick Durkin missed a 43-yarder as time expired.
Sumrall owns it: “I’m frustrated with every part of what we did today. It starts with me.”
📉 THE BIGGER PICTURE
Florida started 4-0 and climbed into the Top 10, and is now 4-2 (2-2 SEC) after a 45-17 loss at Missouri and this one.
Injuries: WR Vernell Brown III (knee) missed a second straight game, and RB Duke Clark (ankle) left in the first quarter.
Next: at No. 1 Texas on Saturday at noon, then a bye, then No. 2 Georgia in Atlanta.
