Pushkin — The Tale of the Dead Princess and the Seven Knights

A queen dies at the moment her husband comes home, and the Tsar's new wife — beautiful, proud, and jealous — trusts only her talking mirror, until the day it tells her that her stepdaughter, the gentle princess betrothed to Prince Yelisey, is fairer than she. Sent into the deep forest to die, the princess is spared by a merciful servant girl and finds shelter with seven brother-knights, but envy hunts her still, in the shape of a beggar nun bearing a golden poisoned apple. Laid in a crystal coffin among the pines, she waits — while Yelisey rides the whole world over and questions the sun, the moon, and the mighty wind to find her.
