Murder In Moscow: Criminologist Casey Jordan Gives Her Take On The Murders

Published 9 hours ago
Description
Casey Jordan argued early on that the Moscow murders looked less like a spontaneous crime of passion and more like the work of an organized offender acting out a violent fantasy. She said the lack of an obvious motive, the nighttime entry into the house, the use of a knife, the absence of an immediately identified suspect and the killer’s ability to leave the scene all suggested planning rather than an impulsive eruption. After Bryan Kohberger’s arrest, Jordan said that theory fit even more closely with what investigators were alleging, especially given his criminology background. She described the killings as “overkill,” but said that did not necessarily mean they were driven by personal rage against the victims; in her view, the excessive violence could instead point to someone trying to satisfy an internal fantasy or need for bloodletting.

Jordan later went further and rejected the popular theory that Kohberger killed because he wanted to be part of the victims’ social circle and was rejected. She instead framed the murders as potentially consistent with an incel-type grievance rooted in sexual and social isolation, powerlessness and resentment toward women. She pointed to reports about Kohberger’s lack of meaningful romantic relationships and theorized that he may have selected the King Road house because it provided an opportunity to watch and approach the victims rather than because he personally knew them. Jordan has consistently treated the crime as fantasy-driven and predatory, not simply as retaliation against one particular victim. That remains her interpretation rather than an established motive, and authorities have never publicly identified a definitive motive for the murders.
