Episode Details

This week on Kalam Astro, host Alya Al-Nuaimi brings you three spectacular stories from the cosmos — including a sky event UAE residents can enjoy from their own gardens!

We start with a historic moment: NASA has switched on the instruments of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope for the very first time. Launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket on August 30th, this 300-megapixel wonder is now positioning itself at Lagrange Point 2 — the perfect "sweet spot" in space where it can stare into the deep universe with the Sun always safely behind it. With a Chronograph that blocks starlight like a hand over a floodlight, Roman is already preparing to reveal planets and galaxies we've never seen before.

Then we celebrate an extraordinary discovery: the youngest planet ever found outside our solar system — a true "baby planet" still forming in its stellar nursery. Nicknamed Elias, this newborn world gives scientists a rare front-row seat to planetary formation in real time.

We also follow up on the discovery of a mysterious new crater on the Moon — the McGetchin Crater — formed by a space rock impact and offering fresh clues about our solar system's violent history.

And as a treat for UAE skywatchers, the beautiful Harvest Moon rises on September 26th! Plus, Alya shares tips on the best stargazing spots in the UAE, from Mleiha Desert to the Al Hajar Mountains.

Tune in, look up, and keep exploring with Kalam Astro! 🌌
