Sharjah at Deep Space Summit, Roman Telescope & the Venus Occultation
Description
In this edition of Kalam Astro, host Alya Al-Nuaimi brings the universe right to your doorstep — including a spectacular sky event you can watch from the UAE with your own eyes!
We kick off with exciting news from Sharjah: the Sharjah Space and Astronomy Hub joined the world's top space minds at the 4th International Deep Space Exploration Conference, held in China. The UAE's Nora Al Amiri represented the Hub, cementing Sharjah's position on the global astronomy stage.
Next, we explore NASA's Roman Space Telescope — not just another telescope, but one that can actually photograph planets outside our solar system. Using a revolutionary Chronograph instrument that acts like a mask to block starlight, Roman can reveal the faint, firefly-like glow of distant exoplanets. It also uses gravitational lensing to spot planets across the cosmos like a giant magnifying glass.
We also discuss a cosmic first: two massive black holes colliding — an event once thought impossible. And we wrap up with a gorgeous sky event just for UAE listeners: the Venus Occultation on September 14th, when the Moon passes directly in front of Venus, beginning at 2:37 PM and ending at 3:57 PM. Don't miss it!
Tune in, look up, and keep exploring with Kalam Astro! 🌌
