Pushkin — The Tale of Tsar Saltan, Part One

Three sisters spin by the window at dusk; the youngest wishes aloud that she might bear the Tsar a hero — never guessing the Tsar himself is listening behind the fence. A wedding, a war, and a letter rewritten by jealous hands seal the young Tsaritsa and her baby into a barrel and cast them on the ocean — but the waves take pity, and on a bare island a swan begins to repay a kindness.
