Back to EpisodesJAMA October 2026 Nicotinamide Riboside for Patients With Early-Stage Parkinson Disease The NOPARK Randomized Clinical Trial
Description
A recent phase 3 clinical trial investigated whether the supplement nicotinamide riboside could slow the progression of early-stage Parkinson disease. Researchers across eleven centers in Norway administered either the substance or a placebo to 393 participants over a 52-week period. To measure disease severity, the study tracked changes using standard movement and non-motor symptom scales. Ultimately, the findings revealed that patients taking the supplement experienced worse clinical outcomes compared to those receiving the inactive treatment. Consequently, experts concluded that this compound is ineffective as a therapeutic intervention for the condition.
