Description
Frank Lampard has given Coventry City's team news ahead of Monday night's Premier League home fixture with Newcastle United at the Coventry Building Society Arena. The club published its own injury update on Thursday 8 October, and Lampard went through it at his pre-match press conference, reported by Andy Turner at CoventryLive. Milan van Ewijk, who sat out the 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest with a hamstring problem, is back in training, as is Kaine Kesler-Hayden. Josh Eccles is not back yet and Lampard said he could be a few more weeks; Haji Wright will not return until into November at best; Luke Woolfenden is a little longer; and Aurele Amenda is working through what Lampard described as up to a three-month injury. All eight of the club's international players have returned to Ryton unscathed. Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle gave his own team news at his press conference, relayed by Lee Ryder at CoventryLive: Joelinton, Nico Gonzalez and Dan Burn are expected to feature and Lewis Miley is expected to be available, while goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen is out for around two months with a hamstring injury. Jaissle was non-committal on Amar Dedic, Tino Livramento, William Osula, Anthony Elanga and Jacob Ramsey. Newcastle arrive on eight points. Lampard also told his press conference that he regularly watches back last season's 3-1 home win over Middlesbrough in February, the last time Coventry played a Monday night game under the lights at the Arena. Coventry are yet to win at home this season. City captain Matt Grimes spoke to Andy Turner about Jake Bidwell, who did not make Coventry's 25-man Premier League squad last month, saying he was heartbroken for him and calling him an incredible human being and an incredible player. Asked about Manchester City, who a Premier League commission found had breached the league's financial rules and who have lodged an appeal and maintain they are innocent, Lampard said he was "outside the story" and would wait and see the result of the appeal. Play Up, Sky Blues!
