Amazon Layoffs October 2026: Sales Up. Jobs Gone.
Description
Amazon layoffs October 2026: customer service, seller support and retail engineering face fresh corporate job cuts across the US, India and UK. Reuters reports fewer than 1,000 employees affected, mainly in Amazon's Stores organization. Amazon confirmed the action without publishing that headcount.
The layoff boomerang is back. This October 8 update examines Amazon restructuring after approximately 30,000 corporate reductions across October 2025 and January 2026.
The cuts landed during Prime Big Deal Days, October 6 and 7. Our earlier Amazon episode examined the August 31 Washington WARN notice covering 121 positions, including a vice president of legal affairs. Regional notices can overlap with global announcements.
WHY PROFIT DOES NOT GUARANTEE JOB SECURITY
Amazon's Q2 2026 online store sales were US$70.4 billion, up 15% year over year. Third-party seller services revenue was US$46.8 billion, up 16%. Company operating income was US$27.5 billion, up 43%. Prime Day timing helped sales; refunds and favourable accounting items helped profit. Employees can support a growing business and still lose their positions.
In January, HR chief Beth Galetti said broad reductions every few months were not the plan, while individual teams would keep evaluating their organization and making adjustments. That offered no lasting assurance to every department.
We examine management delayering, team consolidation, overlapping coordination roles, unfilled vacancies and repeatable support work. CEO Andy Jassy expects AI efficiencies to reduce Amazon's corporate workforce over the coming years. Amazon has not said AI caused this particular round. Possible exposure is distinguished from a confirmed next-cut list.
