Ashra and Merira Kwesi are among the top scholars in the world on ancient Africa, specifically Kemet (Egypt). They have been leading educational tours to Egypt for over forty years. But 2026 was different. They faced what Merira described as "Egyptian Jim Crow," being shut out of the Nubian Village and silenced in their own lectures by government officials out of a growing fear of Afrocentrism and a new wave of anti-Blackness.
