"I Don't Need a Six-Pack" Isn't an Answer

Episode 142 Published 1 week ago
Description

Ask a successful man what he wants from his body and he'll give you a number. Twenty pounds. Or he'll talk about energy, about being around for his children. Rarely the thing he actually pictures.

That answer sounds mature. It's difficult to question and impossible to fail at. "I don't need a six-pack" is true, and it isn't what he was asked.

He built the business, the house and the life without preparing a sensible explanation first. Somewhere along the way he learned that need is the respectable word and want is the vain one. Now the only place he apologises for wanting more is the one he sees every morning with his shirt off.

Fitness after 40 gets framed as health management because health doesn't require him to name a target. Nobody can say he missed a standard he never set.

This episode separates what a man needs from what he wants, and asks what he has been protecting by keeping the picture vague. Maybe the price isn't worth it. That would be a decision.

Most men never make it. They keep the answer that sounds good.
