Episode Details

The acclaimed Western miniseries Lonesome Dove, which originally aired on CBS in 1989 and was adapted from Larry McMurtry's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, is officially being remade for television. Netflix is developing this fresh adaptation in partnership with Teton Ridge Entertainment, utilizing the rights acquired from the McMurtry estate. The project will be helmed by showrunners Zoe Kazan and Jeb Stuart, who previously collaborated on the streaming platform's East of Eden remake. This upcoming series arrives during a broad resurgence of the Western genre on television, which has experienced significant popularity in recent years. Industry executives have expressed high expectations for the production, citing the creative team's proven talent for emotional depth and character-driven storytelling. While no official cast has been announced yet, the revival offers a promising opportunity to expand upon the darker themes and secondary characters that were condensed in the original four-part broadcast.
