Episode Details

Anthony Bourdain’s Get Jiro! graphic novel series and subsequent animated adaptation depict a near-future Los Angeles where culinary standards are strictly enforced by deadly force and chefs operate like criminal overlords. Co-created with Joel Rose, the narrative satirizes early-2010s food culture, pitting corporate fusion empires against militant organic farms while a principled sushi master named Jiro remains fiercely independent. The sources examine how the project blends pulp crime fiction with Bourdain’s real-world philosophies regarding food authenticity, kitchen hierarchy, and the class politics of taste. Ultimately, these works function as a violent, uncompromising extension of Bourdain's nonfiction, transforming everyday dining irritations into a feudal dystopia governed by the absolute rule of the recipe.
