Description
I live in San Diego, and from the outside it looked like another beautiful day. The sun was out, kids were at school, and people were walking their dogs. But underneath that normalcy was a question none of us should ever have to ask: are we safe after our own president suggested an adversary could “take out” our city? Tonight, I want to speak directly to every American who still believes in the promise of this country. We have 28 days to change the balance of power—and we do not have to accept living like this.
Based on the events of Oct 6, 2026
The Breakdown:
• The promise of a government that answers to its people, not a king, and the responsibility passed to every generation
• The Constitution’s preamble and the unfinished work of building “a more perfect Union”
• America’s profound failures alongside its enduring obligation to become better
• Trump’s remarks about an adversary taking out American cities and calling their loss a “small price to pay”
• What the next day felt like in San Diego: ordinary routines shadowed by fear, parents holding children tighter, and unthinkable conversations
• The reassurance we once found in experienced people inside the Pentagon and the chain of command
• Why we no longer have that same confidence that someone will tell Trump no
• The exhaustion of masked raids, near-constant military actions, rising costs, and waking up unsure what comes next
• The dread that recalls the period before January 6—and why there is no incoming president waiting at the end of these 28 days
• Trump’s treatment of journalists, his “Piggy” insult, and the banning of reporters for doing their jobs
• “To the victor belong the spoils”: the conquest and extraction he is asking Americans to accept
• Unauthorized war, civilian deaths, boats sunk at sea, detention conditions, and separated families
• The distance between claims of unprecedented wealth and families choosing between groceries and gas
• The America we wanted the world to see: disaster relief, respected alliances, sovereignty, and a country people believed in
• How Republican control of both chambers has left Trump without meaningful congressional oversight
• What changing the balance of power can restore: compelled testimony, subpoenas, investigations, and checks and balances
• Why voting will not make Trump disappear—and why these next 28 days still demand every one of us
