NEW RULES? Kelvin Sampson WILL LOVE This New NCAA Basketball Proposal for Off-Season
Description
Could Houston Cougars basketball become one of the biggest winners from a new NCAA college basketball proposal?
On today’s Locked On Coogs, Parker Ainsworth breaks down proposed changes that could reshape the college basketball offseason by allowing more summer competition, additional practice time and new opportunities for exhibition games.
The proposal could allow teams to play up to three summer competition dates against other four-year colleges or through international competition. Men’s basketball programs could also see increased summer practice time, giving coaches more opportunities for player development and team chemistry.
For Kelvin Sampson and Houston basketball, that could be especially important.
Houston has built one of college basketball’s premier player-development programs, and additional time with the coaching staff could help new transfers, freshmen and returning players develop even faster.
There could also be major financial opportunities. Could Houston play a summer exhibition at Toyota Center? Could the Cougars face a national opponent at an NBA arena or neutral site?
We break down what the NCAA proposal actually says, why Houston could benefit, the potential revenue opportunities and what happens next.
