When MPLS/SR Makes More Sense Than a Conventional VXLAN Fabric
Description
This story was originally published on HackerNoon at: https://hackernoon.com/when-mplssr-makes-more-sense-than-a-conventional-vxlan-fabric.
VXLAN-EVPN is the data center default, but MPLS/SR can still make sense for telco fabrics requiring traffic engineering, fast reroute, and low overhead.

VXLAN-EVPN is a strong default for general-purpose data center fabrics, but MPLS/SR architectures can offer advantages in telco and NFV environments where encapsulation overhead, explicit traffic engineering, and rapid local failure recovery matter. The comparison, however, depends on the complete underlay and control-plane architecture, not simply whether packets use VXLAN or MPLS encapsulation.
