Astronomers hunting the hypothetical Planet Nine have identified promising far-infrared candidates in old IRAS and AKARI sky-survey data. Researchers are looking for an extremely distant object moving slowly beyond Neptune, potentially hundreds of times farther from the Sun than Earth. But nobody has discovered Planet Nine yet—which means the Serpiconians remain safely hypothetical too.

California regulators are moving toward banning fabrication of engineered stone containing more than 1% crystalline silica after hundreds of countertop workers developed silicosis, an incurable lung disease caused by inhaling silica dust. More than 30 California stone workers have reportedly died. The target isn't your installed countertop—it's the hazardous cutting, grinding and polishing of high-silica engineered stone.

A 15-year-old student in Lens, France, lost his hand and part of his lower arm when a police crowd-control grenade exploded during nationwide school protests. Authorities say roughly 200–250 students were confronting police; one account says the teen picked up the grenade before it exploded, although the exact circumstances remain under investigation. The student survived.
