Jesus and the Gates of Hades: What Most Churches Won't Tell You EP 3

Description
Transfiguration, Why did Jesus take His disciples north into pagan territory, stand near a cave associated with the underworld, and declare that the “gates of Hades” would not prevail? That location may matter far more than most Christians realize. In Episode 3 of **The Revealed One**, we follow Jesus across the actual geography of the Gospels and examine what happens when the story is read against the biblical world of nations, powers, Bashan, Mount Hermon, Caesarea Philippi and the seventy. We begin with the Table of Nations in Genesis 10, Babel and Deuteronomy 32. Then Jesus crosses the Sea of Galilee into Gentile territory to confront Legion among the tombs. From there He moves toward Tyre and Sidon, where a Canaanite mother refuses to stop asking for her daughter. Then He takes His disciples north. Caesarea Philippi. The sanctuary of Pan. The massive cave associated with the realm of the dead. Mount Hermon towering above it. And there Peter declares: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answers with one of the most debated statements in the New Testament: “The gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” Was Jesus simply teaching about the church? Or was the location itself part of the message? We examine: • Genesis 10 and the 70/72 nations • Babel and Deuteronomy 32 • Galilee of the Gentiles • Legion and the man among the tombs • Bashan, Og and the Rephaim • Tyre, Sidon and the Canaanite woman • Caesarea Philippi • Pan and the cave associated with Hades • Mount Hermon and the Watchers tradition • The possible Mount Hermon setting of the Transfiguration • Jesus sending the seventy • Pentecost and the reversal of Babel • What “the gates of Hades” means for the posture of the church Some of these connections are explicit in Scripture. Others depend on historical context, Second Temple Jewish literature and interpretation. I separate those categories throughout the episode. The central question remains: **Of every place Jesus could have chosen, why did He choose this one?** Kingdom Field Manuals and more from Broadcasting Seeds: https://broadcastingseeds.com If this episode challenges the way you see the geography of the Gospels, share it with someone who loves digging into the strange corners of Scripture. #Jesus #BibleStudy #MountHermon #CaesareaPhilippi #GatesOfHades
