SHIFTHEADS: Sass Jordan: From Teenage Hero to Bandmate
Description
Sass Jordan’s voice stopped a fourteen-year-old Derek Downham in his tracks. Years later, he was playing drums behind her. His memories bring the distance between musical hero and friend into focus, with moments that reach beyond the stage.
Rock records and Canadian Idol offer familiar ways to remember her. Derek adds another chapter to that picture, recalling the musicians around her and the honesty he heard across different settings. Where did the performer end and the person begin?
A powerful entrance could command a room, but laughter mattered in this friendship too. Derek remembers a connection he felt was only beginning and considers how to honour someone whose presence made an impression long before they met. What remains is more than a favourite recording.
