Episode Details

X-Men: Elsewhen Vol. 1 is a newly published graphic novel by John Byrne that brings to life his long-discarded alternate ending to the famous Dark Phoenix Saga. Instead of allowing Jean Grey to die as originally mandated by editorial leadership in 1980, this narrative explores a timeline where she survives with diminished capacities while the Shi'ar Empire struggles to contain the still-active Phoenix Force. Distributed by Abrams ComicArts under the Marvel Arts imprint, the book transitions Byrne's previously uncolored webcomic into a fully produced, oversized hardcover edition complete with professional inks, vibrant colors, and updated lettering. The story moves at a brisk pace typical of classic comics, featuring appearances by iconic characters like Magneto, the Avengers, and the Fantastic Four alongside classic sentinel conflicts. While critics are somewhat divided on the depth of the character dialogue and the high price point, the volume has resonated strongly with nostalgic readers and quickly went to a second printing.
