Death row inmate survives botched execution
Published 1 week, 6 days ago
Description
Death row inmate Christa Pike remains unconscious on a ventilator in a Tennessee hospital after surviving two doses of pentobarbital during a failed execution attempt. The 50-year-old, convicted of the 1995 torture and murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, is believed to be the only person ever to survive being injected with execution drugs. Governor Bill Lee has paused all executions in Tennessee for the rest of the year and ordered an investigation, while Pike's lawyers are calling for her sentence to be commuted to life in prison.
