Prince Andrew And The Settlement With Virginia Robert's
Published 1 day, 12 hours ago
Description
Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre, formerly Virginia Roberts, reached an out-of-court settlement in February 2022 that ended her civil sexual-assault lawsuit against him before the case could go to trial. Giuffre had alleged that Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell trafficked her to Andrew for sex when she was 17, claims Andrew denied. Under the settlement, Andrew made a substantial payment to Giuffre and also agreed to make a significant donation to her charity supporting victims of abuse. The exact amount was not publicly disclosed, but the resolution spared Andrew from being deposed and from facing a potentially damaging public trial.
The settlement also included a carefully worded statement in which Andrew expressed regret for his association with Epstein and acknowledged that Giuffre had suffered as an established victim of abuse, while stopping short of admitting her allegations against him were true. For Giuffre, the agreement brought the lawsuit to a close without requiring her to prove the case before a jury. For Andrew, it ended one of the most serious legal threats he had ever faced, but at a steep reputational cost. By settling rather than fighting the claims through trial, he avoided sworn testimony and courtroom scrutiny, but the case effectively cemented his public downfall and deepened the damage already caused by his relationship with Epstein.
