Corporate Loyalty Is A One-Way Scam

Corporate Loyalty Is A One-Way Scam

Description

Corporate Loyalty Is A One-Way Scam is a first-person episode about getting fired, getting laid off, corporate loyalty, job security, severance, workplace pressure and why strong performance does not guarantee protection during layoffs, restructuring or cost cutting.

This episode builds on They Fired Me On My Daughter’s Birthday, where Harj first told the story behind the firing.

Harj Singh is The Host of The Grind Hotline. He spent more than seven years in financial services working 10 to 12-hour days, helping generate tens of millions in revenue, training teams and working closely with senior leadership. He believed performance, loyalty and proximity to power created protection. Then leadership changed, the executive he was aligned with lost power, management decided his work could be handed to someone cheaper, and the protection he thought he had disappeared.

Being valuable is not the same as being safe.

Employees can give a company years, health, family time, energy, identity and silence. The company gives a paycheque while the arrangement still makes business sense. When the economics or politics change, loyalty can become irrelevant very quickly.

This episode examines why corporate loyalty can become dangerous, how workers confuse strong performance with job security, why a high salary can become a cost-cutting target, how executive sponsorship can vanish after leadership changes, and why losing a job can feel like personal rejection when your identity is tied to the company.

For workers following layoffs 2026, tech layoffs, banking layoffs, AI layoffs, severance, hiring freezes, PIPs, outsourcing, return-to-office pressure and corporate restructuring, the lesson is simple: do excellent work, but never let one employer become your entire safety system.

The Grind Hotline covers major workforce pressure across technology and banking, including Wells Fargo layoffs, Bank of America layoffs, Citi layoffs, JPMorgan layoffs, Morgan Stanley layoffs, Amazon layoffs, Microsoft layoffs, Google layoffs, Meta layoffs, Oracle layoffs, Salesforce layoffs, Intel layoffs, IBM layoffs, Uber layoffs and PayPal layoffs.
