Off-Road Racer Live - Glenn Harris - 2026 Off-Road Expo
Published 2 hours ago
Description
Welcome to the first edition of Off-Road Racer Live. These recordings come from the 2026 Off-Road Expo, in the Josh the Auto Buyer booth.
In this episode, we sit down with legendary off-road racer and team leader Glenn Harris, a man whose career stretches back to the early days of stadium and desert off-road racing. Glenn started racing as a teenager, building his first desert buggy with his father before going on to compete at the highest levels of the sport. He became a major force in Mickey Thompson's Off-Road Championship Gran Prix, raced factory-backed Mazda trucks, and helped build one of the most competitive off-road programs of the 1980s alongside drivers like Jeff Huber and Rod Millen. We talk about the early days of professional off-road racing, what it was like battling factory Toyota teams, the wild rotary-powered Mazda trucks, working with legendary builder Nye Frank, and the people and machines that shaped an era of racing. But Glenn's story doesn't stop there. From stadium racing to Baja and beyond, his career has continued through generations of off-road technology — including leading California Gold Racing in the SCORE Baja 1000 and taking on some seriously ambitious 4x4 builds. This is a conversation about racing, engineering, competition, and a lifetime spent pushing vehicles — and himself — beyond the limits.
