Episode Details

A handwritten note connected to China was handed to Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. in the middle of an international security forum.

He READ IT OUT LOUD.

What happened next became a viral global moment.

Now, Secretary Teodoro joins Erin Molan to reveal what was going through his mind when the note suddenly arrived, why he decided to respond publicly, and what the confrontation says about the much bigger battle playing out between China, the Philippines and the West.

Teodoro also breaks down what is really happening in the South China Sea, why the Philippines finds itself on the front line of Beijing’s ambitions, the growing pressure surrounding Taiwan, Xi Jinping’s position inside China, and the extraordinary political buzz surrounding Teodoro himself after the viral confrontation.

Plus, Gordon Chang explains why he believes Teodoro has shown the world a very different way of dealing with Beijing.
