Special Edition: The Search for Noah's Ark

Published 5 hours ago
Description
The search for Noah’s Ark continues in eastern Turkey, where the boat-shaped Durupınar formation near Mount Ararat remains a focus of investigation and debate. In 2026, a project led by Professor Cenker Atila of Sivas Cumhuriyet University, working with Noah’s Ark Scans, began a new phase of geological and archaeological research. Ground-penetrating radar, electrical resistivity surveys, aerial mapping, and drilling are being used to investigate what lies beneath the surface. Researchers hope to determine whether the formation contains evidence of construction or owes its appearance entirely to natural processes. No verified discovery of Noah’s Ark has been established.

Among the figures associated with this location was David Fasold, a former Merchant Marine officer and marine salvage expert. His 1988 book, The Ark of Noah, chronicled his expeditions and presented his argument that Durupınar preserved the remains of the biblical vessel. Drawing on maritime experience, biblical measurements, field observations, and objects interpreted as anchor stones, Fasold offered readers an adventurous investigation that challenged conventional views of the flood story. His conclusions, however, changed as the investigation progressed. In 1996, Fasold coauthored a scientific paper with geologist Lorence Collins identifying the formation as a natural geological structure rather than a ship. Features previously interpreted as building materials received geological explanations.Today’s search returns to the questions that animated Fasold’s book: Can an ancient flood tradition be connected to physical evidence? What would constitute convincing proof? His work remains part of the search’s history, illustrating both the excitement of exploration and the necessity of testing extraordinary claims carefully.
