Oil flow in Strait of Hormuz nears pre-war levels– however gas prices remain high

Description
Data from maritime intelligence firms like Kpler indicate that by the final week of September 2026, daily Middle East oil flows rebounded to between 92% and 98% of their pre-war baseline. This recovery is largely driven by expensive U.S. military escorts, ship-to-ship transfers in the Gulf of Oman, and Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline. However, consumers are seeing little relief at the pump, with U.S. gasoline averaging $4.41 to $4.43 a gallon and diesel hovering around $6.41 a gallon.
