Description

Today’s reading from Isaiah 17–19 and Ephesians 5:17–33 invites us to consider what happens when we stop letting our own desires determine how we live and start letting God shape our relationships, loyalties, and identity. Both passages remind us that formation happens as we learn to place our lives under God rather than making ourselves the center.

In Isaiah, nations that had trusted their own strength, alliances, and false gods are confronted with the limits of those things. God continually calls people away from misplaced dependence and back toward an identity shaped by recognizing Him as Lord, learning that obedience involves a steady reordering of what receives our trust.

In Ephesians, Paul brings that same kind of reordering into the home. Husbands and wives are called to relationships shaped by reverence for Christ, where submission, sacrificial love, respect, and faithfulness replace the instinct to make personal desires the controlling force.

Together, these passages invite us to reflect on what is shaping the relationships closest to us. They ask us to notice where self-interest has quietly taken the center and to consider what our marriages, families, and relationships look like as Christ continues forming us into people who love one another according to His character.
