White House Told DOJ: Hide The Abortion Pill Crackdown Until After The Midterms

Description

White House chief of staff Susie Wiles told Attorney General Todd Blanche to hold off on going after abortion pills until after the midterms, because they know that if you saw the plan, you’d vote against it.

That’s from the Washington Sun, where a senior administration official said:

“No one wants us taking any real action before the midterms.”

That is a wild way to talk about your own agenda. People usually talk like that about a surprise party or a bank job. Wiles reportedly warned that going after the pill now would cost Republicans even more seats. So they know you don’t want this. They’ve simply decided your opinion expires on November 4th.

The anti-abortion groups are fine with waiting, because they know what they’re getting. Students for Life told the Sun, “Everything but the election is pushed until after the elections.”

Another conservative close to the administration said that once it’s “truly lame-duck time, we’ve heard the gloves will be off.”

Gloves? These people overturned Roe, and apparently that was the gentle version.

So what’s the surprise? Blanche already told us. On a July call with thousands of faith leaders,

he promised to make the Dobbs decision “permanent in every single state,” and said “we will have victory, and victory will be soon.”

Todd, my dude, you can’t keep a secret you announced to a few thousand people on a conference call that ended up on YouTube.

The weapon is the Comstock Act, a law from 1873. It’s older than the lightbulb, and it was written when women couldn’t vote, which honestly explains the nostalgia. It bans mailing “every article or thing” intended for producing an abortion. That covers pills, it covers the supplies a clinic in California needs to stay open, and it doesn’t need a single vote in Congress. An activist told the Sun the Justice Department is “actively working on” it, with enforcement saved for after you vote.

The FDA is also running a “safety review” of a pill it approved 26 years ago. In court, the government’s lawyer told a judge “the only thing I can say” is “that FDA is conducting an ongoing review,” which is lawyer for “I was told not to ruin the surprise.”

And this week, three Republican attorneys general asked the Supreme Court to gut the shield laws protecting blue-state doctors who mail these pills.

They also demanded “complete identification” of every patient who got them.

A government list of women who had abortions. Are you fucking kidding me? What the actual fuck is wrong with these fucking people?

The White House calls all of this “completely false,” which from this White House is basically a notarized confession.

If you live in a state that voted to protect abortion, this is still your problem. A federal mail ban doesn’t care what your state constitution says, and after November, nobody in this administration has to face a voter for two years.

They aren’t hiding this plan because it’s popular. The election is in 32 days, and they’re counting on you finding out on day 33. Ruin the surprise. Fucking vote.
