Olapeju Olasokan MD, MBA joins Susan Hughes MD as host Sharpening HER Edge to share her inspiring journey of leadership and creating multiple visions of how she can impact health. The path of leadership is rarely straight but with lots of curves, bends, and detours.

A mom of four with deep ties to her homeland of Nigeria, Dr. Olapeju began her career practicing medicine in the intense world of a hospitalist. Over time, her curiosity about the bigger picture of healthcare led her to work with insurance companies, giving her a broader view of how decisions are made, how systems operate, and ultimately how patient care is delivered.

She went on to earn her MBA so she could better understand—and communicate with—the “other side” of healthcare leadership and business, while continuing to balance her roles as physician, wife, mother, and daughter.

In this conversation, we explore what it looks like to build a meaningful career without following a straight line, how leadership evolves through different seasons of life, and why sometimes the most interesting paths are the ones we never planned.
