Back to EpisodesPsalm 82: How To Have A Heavenly Perspective
Description
Power can look permanent when you’re stuck watching the news cycle or living through a hard season. Psalm 82 refuses to let us stay trapped there. I’m Pastor Brandon, and today on the Bible Breakdown Podcast we open Psalm chapter 82 and chase one goal: learning how to have a heavenly perspective when the kingdom of men feels shaky, unfair, or outright corrupt.
Asaph paints a bold scene where God presides over “heaven’s court,” and that single phrase has sparked deep theology and real debate. We talk through the two major ways people read it: one view sees a poetic confrontation of earthly rulers and judges who act like they’re above accountability, while another view reads it through a spiritual lens that points to unseen powers and a supernatural courtroom. You don’t have to settle every detail to hear the message clearly. God is the true King, and all authority, visible or invisible, answers to Him.
From there, Psalm 82 gets concrete about what God expects from anyone in power: protect the poor, defend the orphan, uphold the oppressed, rescue the helpless. When leaders refuse justice, darkness spreads and the world feels “shaken to the core.” We bring it home with a steady reminder that we live in two kingdoms at once, and God isn’t confused or strained by what we can’t control. The same God who sent Jesus to save us is trustworthy with broken systems and painful seasons.
