Travel the dusty roads of the Roman countryside as a census collector tasked with recording households, occupations, farmland, livestock, property, and the many creative explanations offered by people who would prefer their possessions to look slightly less valuable on an official record.

With wax tablets and stylus in hand, you move from village to village, counting sheep, measuring fields, speaking with farmers and craftsmen, and discovering that tax avoidance may be one of humanity’s oldest surviving traditions. Along the way, experience the quieter side of the Roman Empire, where administration depended less on marching legions and more on paperwork, patience, and figuring out exactly where someone’s missing donkey has gone.

Settle in, get comfortable, and fall asleep to the slow rhythms of roads, farms, village conversations, and ancient Roman bureaucracy.
