Episode Details

The Houston Astros’ 2026 season is officially OVER.

The Chicago White Sox defeated the Astros 7-3 in Game 2 to complete a sweep of the AL Wild Card Series at Daikin Park, ending Houston’s postseason run almost as quickly as it began. On this episode of Locked On Astros, Eric Huysman and Brett Chancey break down the disastrous first inning, Hunter Brown’s short start, Houston’s attempted comeback and the Chase Meidroth three-run homer that delivered the final blow.

Jeremy Peña, Cam Smith and Jose Altuve all went deep as Houston battled back from an early 4-0 deficit. Altuve’s 28th career postseason home run moved him within one of Manny Ramirez’s all-time postseason record, but the Astros couldn’t capitalize when they loaded the bases with a chance to take control of the game.

But this episode is about much more than one loss.

How did an Astros team that battled back from a 20-31 start, overcame a mountain of injuries and somehow won the AL West finish 81-81 and get swept out of the postseason? We examine the roster construction, defensive problems, inconsistent offense, pitching issues and missed opportunities that defined Houston’s 2026 season.

Then comes the biggest question: What happens now?

Joe Espada’s contract is up. Will the Astros bring him back, or will Houston enter 2027 with a new manager? Who will replace Dana Brown as general manager? How much control will the next GM have? And what does the future look like for Jose Altuve, Yordan Alvarez, Jeremy Peña, Hunter Brown, Cam Smith, Isaac Paredes and the rest of Houston’s core?

The Astros’ season is over. Now the organization faces one of its most important offseasons in years.
