Wort vergessen? So redest du auf Deutsch trotzdem weiter | A2–B1 Podcast

Season 2 Episode 28 Published 1 week, 2 days ago
Description

You know exactly what you want to say in German… and then suddenly ONE important word disappears. 😅

Do you stop talking? Switch to English? Or just say: „Ähm… egal“?

In this A2–B1 German podcast episode, Emil and Sophia show you a much better strategy: keep speaking — even when the exact German word is missing.

You’ll learn how to stay calm, explain what you mean with simple German, ask for the missing word naturally, and most importantly: finish your original message instead of giving up halfway.

🎧 In this episode, you’ll practice how to:

• gain time when a word disappears
• describe an object when you don’t know its name
• explain an action when the verb is missing
• describe a quality with a simple example
• ask naturally: „Wie heißt das noch mal auf Deutsch?“
• react when someone suggests the wrong word
• return to your original sentence and keep the conversation going

You’ll hear realistic examples with words such as Ladegerät, ausleihen, hilfsbereit, Flaschenöffner, verschieben and more.

💬 Useful German phrases:

• Einen Moment, mir fällt das Wort gerade nicht ein.
One moment, I can’t think of the word right now.

• Ich suche gerade das richtige Wort.
I’m looking for the right word right now.

• Ich meine dieses Ding, mit dem man …
I mean this thing that you use to …

• Man benutzt es, um …
You use it to …

• Anders gesagt …
In other words …

• Wie heißt das noch mal auf Deutsch?
What is that called again in German?

• Wie nennt man das auf Deutsch?
What do you call that in German?

• Genau, das Wort habe ich gesucht.
Exactly, that’s the word I was looking for.

• Fast, aber ich meine etwas anderes.
Almost, but I mean something else.

• Also, ich wollte sagen, dass …
So, what I wanted to say was …

🗣️ Speaking practice

This episode is not only for listening.

You’ll get several moments to speak aloud and practice describing words you cannot remember.

Your final challenge:

Choose an object near you.
Don’t say its name.

Describe it in German:

👉 What does it look like?
👉 What do you use it for?
👉 Where do you normally find it?

Start with:

„Ich meine dieses Ding, mit dem man …“

The goal is not to know every German word.

The goal is to keep communicating even when one word is missing.
